Unlock the full potential of your piloting skills with an Instrument Rating. At Leading Edge Flight Training, located at the Fort Collins/Loveland airport, we offer a comprehensive instrument rating course that equips pilots with the necessary skills to navigate aircraft accurately through reference to instruments. Get in touch with us today to learn more!

Instrument Rating Requirements

To obtain an Instrument Rating, pilots must complete specific requirements, including 50 hours of Cross Country as Pilot in Command (PIC), 40 to 50 hours of instrument flight (15 of which must be with a CFII), air traffic control routing, instrument approach procedures, simulated instrument failures, and pass a 60 question written examination and “check-ride” with an FAA examiner.

Why Private Pilots Should Get an Instrument Rating

Private pilots with an Instrument Rating gain increased confidence and versatility in their flying skills. This rating allows pilots to fly in weather conditions that were previously restricted, enhancing their ability to navigate through low visibility and adverse weather. It also opens up opportunities for extended cross-country flights and adds an additional layer of safety to their flying.
